Haben Girma, Disability Rights Lawyer and First Deafblind Person to Graduate Harvard Law

Join us for a workshop with Haben Girma, the first Deafblind person to graduate from Harvard Law School. Now, Haben is a Disability Rights Lawyer. She consults private companies like Apple and Linkedin about how to make accessible technology, travels extensively, and enjoys surfing, all while advocating for the civil rights of people with disabilities. 

President Barack Obama named her a White House Champion for Change. Additionally, she has was on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, and has been honored by President Bill Clinton, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Haben details her life in her memoir Haben: The Deafblind Woman Who Conquered Harvard Law. Her story has been featured in The New York Times, Oprah Magazine and on The Today Show.

The discussion will focus on various anecdotes from Haben’s memoir. As such, workshop attendees are recommended to read her book, which discusses her experience with the Ethiopia-Eritrea conflict, her childhood educational journey, and her life learnings.
