Object aims to ensure that young girls have the right self-image, confidence and self-esteem to pursue their passions. The name stems from objecting to female stereotypes.
Today, young girls can fall victim to messages that dictate acceptable behavior from girls. Already vulnerable to peer pressure, these messages can break young girls’ confidence, deterring them from exploring their passions. Furthermore, the lack of visible women role models makes it difficult for girls to have someone to look up to.
Object is a platform that uses experienced women’s stories and experiences to instill or boost confidence in girls. It connects over 500 girls in the Bay Area (ages 8-15) with women role models in various fields — sports, politics, entrepreneurship, etc. — through monthly workshops. These workshops have three parts: a fireside chat, an experiential activity led by the speaker, and mingling over snacks.
Through hearing other women’s stories of struggles and success and trying activities in different fields, young girls can gain the confidence they need to do what they love proudly.
